I really don't often reflect on this topic much, but today is my birthday and I have been thinking since yesterday, about why some people die so easily while others like myself seem to cheat death so regularly.
This birthday takes me well beyond the proverbial three score years and ten, so it left me wondering why I am alive still!
After all, I have been thrown from a moving car, been shot at, teargassed several times and even emerged unscathed after my ex-husband and an intruder fought beside me on my bed for possession of gun, which fired several shots around me as I lay sleeping peacefully!
On the other hand, my only son was shot at only once in his short life, yet the bullet found its mark in his heart.
Dead at age 24. Yet here I am still alive!
Will we ever know why some die so young yet others go through the proverbial wringer for decades and are still around?
I suspect these answers will never be revealed.
The best we can do therefore is accept whatever time we are allowed on this earth and do the best we can to retain good health while trying as much as we can, to make life better for the others.
It doesn't sound like much, but as Mother Teresa said, we can't help the whole world but each one should try to help at least one.
In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy myself, my wonderful family and my friends, like those who had an early celebration for me yesterday.
La lucha continua.
