Florida's cold spells

 I love the cold spells in Florida. Not because I like to freeze🥶, but because I hate iguana lizards.

Actually I hate all lizards, but iguanas have a special place in my hate gene😡.

The good news is, during the (infrequent) cold spells in Florida, they fall out of trees and some actually die.

I used to rejoice until one fell out of the tree I normally park under, and was laying right beside the driver's door!

Omg, I nearly stepped on it too and was sure I was going to fall, before I quicky regained my balance. 

I could have had a heart attack too!😡

Luckily for me, my neighbor, who had never  looked anything like a hero,💪 was just coming out of his vehicle and rescued me by taking it up by the tail and throwing it away.

It clearly was not dead as it moved slightly when I tiptoed over to look at it.

I thought that would be the last of my terrible experiences with stinking lizards since winter is over. However, this morning as I approached my vehicle, I was overwhelmed by the stinkiest smell.

As I walked around the vehicle to see the cause, I nearly stepped on a huge, dead, rotting iguana monster, right by my passenger door!

Omg. What next? An iguana lying stunned or dead on my car top or horror of horrors, one falling out of the tree right on my head?😭😭

 No, this is getting too much for me.😡

I have to find a warm lizard-free state to move to.

Any suggestions?

 

Climate change, but Merry Christmas 🎄.

 If you want to know if climate change is real, visit Colorado. For recently they have been having more or less, the same temperatures as Florida!

I still can't believe I lugged with all my winter gear across half of the North American continent to enjoy a white Christmas with my family, only to encounter this 🫢.

Instead of snow covered lawns and trees, above is a sample of what I encountered, leafless trees and dry brown grass.

No snow.

Even when you look up at the the Rocky Mountains in the distance, you see large exposed areas without snow.

 I hear that to accommodate skiers, they have more than 100 snow making machines running full time in places like Vail and Breckenridge, but because the sun is so hot, it's melting at a rapid rate.

Yup. Two things are certain: 1) global warming is real and 2)  Santa certainly didn't travel here by sleigh last night to deliver presents 🎁🎁🎁🌲🎄!

Fern Forrest Nature Center

Yup, it's true. Take my word for it.😡

Unfortunately I never knew about that until I got to the park. 

And guess what, these mosquitoes even love air conditioning, as there they were in the lady's room too!

Despite those pests, it's a lovely place, peaceful, lush with lovely walkways, rest areas and of course with all the information you need to know about the local flora and fauna.

I had hoped to see a bobcat though but alas, all I saw was these two squirrels, both of which were fast asleep. Oh well I had never seen squirrels sleeping before 😊.

And I shouldn't complain too much about the mosquitoes too much for as I strolled on the elevated walkway, I wondered if the notice above was an exaggearation for only one mosquito visited me.

Then after a peaceful stroll, I came off the boardwalk and headed to Maple Walk .

That's where they were laying in wait for us😡. 

Not just me, but everyone who looked like they wanted to go further had to make a quick retreat!

It's a lovely, nature trail in Coconut Creek, Florida though and it had a lot of visitors when I went there on Sunday.

However, take the mosquito warning seriously. And would you believe the coincidence, for as I escaped into my car, there was a program on the radio with  panelists discussion on mosquito borne diseases!😁
